This delivery follows a $375 million agreement signed in January 2022, under which the Philippines agreed to procure three BrahMos missile batteries from India.
The BrahMos missile is globally regarded as one of the most advanced cruise missile systems.
It has an impressive range of 290 kilometers and travels at a speed of 2.8 Mach—roughly 3,400 km/h, or nearly three times the speed of sound.
The system is highly versatile and can be launched from land, air, sea, and even submarines.
Unlike the first delivery in April 2024, which was transported via an Indian Air Force aircraft with support from civil aviation agencies, the second consignment was shipped by sea.
In addition to the supply of the missile systems, India has extended training support to the Philippines.
In February 2023, a team of 21 officers from the Philippine Navy underwent training in India on the operation and maintenance of the BrahMos systems.
