Khushbu lost the gold-medal bout to Germany's Jolina Reinhold, the Cadet World Champion, by Ippon in just 48 seconds.
Her achievement follows Thangjam Tababi Devi, who won silver in the women's 44 kg category at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Khushbu began her campaign with a 1–0 yuko victory over Guinea's Mamaissata Camara in the round of 16. She subsequently defeated Morocco's Abir Bouazzaoui by ippon.
In the semifinal, she defeated Algeria's Dounia Berrahoual by ippon, securing her place in the final and guaranteeing India a silver medal.
The 2026 edition, held from 31 October to 13 November, marks the first Olympic sporting event hosted on African soil. Approximately 2,650 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees are participating.
The International Judo Federation (IJF) officially recorded Khushbu Darjada as the silver medallist in the women's under-63 kg category.
