A biosphere reserve is an ecosystem with plants and animals of unusual scientific and natural interest. The biosphere reserve network was launched in 1976, two years after the initiation of Man and The Biosphere (MAB) programme. A biosphere reserve consists of three zones: Core, Buffer and Transition Area.
  1. Core Zone: No human activity is permitted in this zone,
  2. Buffer Zone: It surrounds the core area, where a limited access permits to local people for the gathering of resources, and
  3. Transition Zones: It is the outermost zone, which is open to human settlements and resource gathering.
