This test is important to confirm India's ability to launch a powerful counterattack if needed.
The INS Arighaat submarine was officially added to the Navy in August at the Ship Building Centre in Vishakhapatnam.
Before this full test, the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) conducted many trials to ensure the missile could be launched from underwater.
The Navy plans to conduct more tests of the missile system in the future.
Currently, India has two nuclear submarines that can launch ballistic missiles: INS Arihant and INS Arighaat. A third submarine has been built and is expected to join the Navy next year.
