Developed independently, the vessel is expected to become the world’s largest amphibious assault ship, according to the Washington-based Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Key features of the Type 076 include:
Full-load displacement exceeding 40,000 tonnes.
Dual-island design with a full-length flight deck.
An electromagnetic catapult and arresting system, enabling the launch and recovery of fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and amphibious vehicles.
The advanced electromagnetic launch technology, also featured on China’s Fujian aircraft carrier launched in 2022, significantly enhances the ship's operational capabilities.
Following its launch, the Sichuan will undergo equipment commissioning, mooring trials, and sea trials before becoming fully operational.
