Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has announced the signing of a ₹13,500 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI fighter jets, along with associated equipment. These aircraft will be manufactured at HAL's Nasik division under an intergovernmental framework.
The Su-30MKI, a two-seater, multi-role long-range fighter jet originally developed by Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi, will now feature 62.6% indigenous content.
HAL, operating under a license agreement, is responsible for producing these advanced jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
HAL, a government-owned aerospace and defense company, specializes in the design, development, manufacturing, and supply of aircraft, helicopters, avionics, and communication systems for both military and civilian markets.
