On December 20, the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Army jointly conducted a successful casualty evacuation (casevac) operation, rescuing 10 injured Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel following a bus accident near Zuluk, close to Gangtok.
The IAF promptly deployed two Cheetah helicopters and one Mi-17V5 helicopter from Bagdogra Air Base within an hour of receiving the distress call at 11:15 am.
Despite marginal weather conditions and the challenging altitude of approximately 9,000 feet at the Zuluk helipad, the helicopters successfully evacuated the injured personnel.
The evacuees were airlifted to Military Hospitals in Gangtok and Bengdubi for immediate medical care.
This swift and coordinated operation underscores the readiness and capability of the IAF and Army in responding to emergencies in difficult terrains.
