The rescue operation was conducted in coordination with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), which provided additional resources to aid the mission.
The incident involved the Indian mechanized sailing vessel Al Piranpir, which was en route from Porbandar in Gujarat to Bandar Abbas in Iran when it encountered turbulent weather.
Upon receiving a distress call at its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, the ICG promptly alerted its regional headquarters in Gandhinagar.
The coast guard ship Sarthak was dispatched to the reported location, and the MRCC in Pakistan was also informed to alert nearby vessels.
The search and rescue effort was bolstered by a PMSA aircraft and the merchant vessel MV Cosco Glory, which assisted in locating the survivors.
PMSA confirmed its role in the successful operation, stating that all 12 crew members were saved from a life raft after the Al Piranpir sank.
The incident reportedly occurred within Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Under international maritime law, an EEZ extends 200 nautical miles from a coastal country’s shores, granting it exclusive rights over the resources within that area, such as oil, gas, and fish.
