Abdul Rehman Makki, one of the accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and the brother-in-law of alleged mastermind Hafiz Saeed, passed away on Friday due to a heart attack, as reported by PTI. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here
Makki, the deputy chief of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa organization, had been ill for several days and was undergoing treatment for diabetes at a private hospital in Lahore.
In 2020, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court for a terror financing case. Since then, he had maintained a low profile.
In 2023, the United Nations designated Makki as a global terrorist, imposing an asset freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo under its sanctions regime.
