Soldiers stationed at the Siachen Glacier now have access to 4G and 5G connectivity, thanks to a partnership between Reliance Jio and the Indian Army. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here
In collaboration with Army Signallers, Jio deployed pre-configured plug-and-play equipment at a forward post, extending its network to the world’s highest battlefield in Ladakh.
The Indian Army played a crucial role in managing logistics, including airlifting Jio’s equipment to the glacier. This effort has brought seamless connectivity to 16,000 feet in the Karakoram range, where temperatures can drop to -50°C.
Earlier, on January 2, the Army announced plans to connect Ladakh’s remote areas and border villages with 4G technology in partnership with Bharti Airtel.
The Fire and Fury Corps collaborated to install 42 4G mobile towers, providing coverage in regions like Kargil, Siachen, Demchok, Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO), and Galwan.
