The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has cleared defence procurement proposals worth around ₹67,000 crore to enhance the operational strength of the Indian Armed Forces. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here
For the Indian Army, approval was given for Thermal Imager-based Night Sights for BMP infantry vehicle drivers.
The Indian Navy will induct Compact Autonomous Surface Craft (CASC) for anti-submarine warfare, while the Indian Air Force will acquire advanced Mountain Radars for better surveillance along mountainous borders.
The DAC also sanctioned upgrades to the SAKSHAM/SPYDER weapon systems for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System.
Additionally, long-term maintenance support was approved for critical platforms, including the IAF’s C-17 and C-130J transport aircraft, along with an annual maintenance contract for the S - 400 air defence missile system.
