An Indian Armed Forces contingent has departed for Russia to participate in the multilateral joint military exercise Zapad 2025, which will be held at the Mulino Training Ground in Nizhniy from September 10 to 16. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here
The Indian contingent includes 65 personnel, with 57 from the Army, 7 from the Air Force, and 1 from the Navy. The army team is led by a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment.
For the first time since Operation Sindoor, the Indian and Pakistani armies will participate in the same military exercise during Zapad in Russia.
More than 20 countries are taking part in the exercise, including China, Belarus, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Congo, Mali, India, Iran, Niger, and Tajikistan.
India and Russia conduct several bilateral and multilateral military exercises such as Indra, Milan, Vostok, Zapad, MUX, SCO Peace Mission, and the Army Games.
This year, the army phase of the Indra exercise will be held in India, with Russian forces expected to visit next month.
