Indian Drone Firm ideaForge Trains NATO Forces in US - Expected Defence Current Affairs 2026

Indian UAV manufacturer ideaForge Technology launched a specialised drone flight-test training programme for NATO military personnel in the United States.

ideaForge Technology Ltd., through its US subsidiary ideaForge Technology Inc, has started a specialised UAV flight-test training programme at the National Test Pilot School (NTPS), USA.

This marks the first time an Indian UAV firm is training NATO military personnel at the prestigious institution.

Training Based on NATO-Certified SWITCH UAV

The programme uses ideaForge’s NATO-certified SWITCH UAV, a hybrid drone designed primarily for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

Participants receive hands-on flight-testing experience, enabling them to understand UAV deployment in real operational environments.

Week-Long Programme Begins March 9

The week-long training exercise began on 9 March 2026 and involves military personnel from four continents.

Participating forces include the Royal Canadian Air Force, Israeli Air Force, Indian Navy, German Bundeswehr, Royal Australian Air Force, Italian Air Force, Sweden, and the United States Air Force

Key Skills Taught During the Training

The programme focuses on practical UAV flight-testing and operational planning. Trainees undergo structured modules covering:

Flight-test planning,

Operational deployment,

Telemetry monitoring,

Payload operations,

Mission evaluation,

Post-flight data analysis

These modules help improve mission planning, monitoring, and tactical decision-making capabilities.

Realistic Combat Scenario Simulations

The training exercises replicate real operational conditions, allowing personnel to evaluate UAV performance during complex defence missions.

Such exposure helps military operators understand integrated aerial systems used in modern warfare operations.

Boost for India’s Defence Technology Reputation

The selection of an Indian company by NTPS reflects growing global acceptance of India’s indigenous UAV technology.

It also reinforces India’s progress toward self-reliance in defence innovation and drone development under the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
