Astrobase Space Technologies unveiled EVEREST, an 800-kN-class Full-Flow Staged Combustion (FFSC) liquid rocket engine, in Bengaluru.
The engine uses liquid oxygen (LOX) and liquid methane as propellants and is being developed for reusable launch-system applications.
FFSC is an advanced liquid rocket-engine cycle in which fuel-rich and oxidizer-rich preburners drive separate turbopumps before propellants enter the main combustion chamber.
NASA explains that this architecture can reduce turbine temperatures and thermal stress while supporting technologies aimed at reusable rocket engines.
Astrobase states that EVEREST is designed to provide 800 kN of thrust, with a specific impulse of approximately 340 seconds and a throttle range of 50% to 110%.
Specific impulse is a standard measure of rocket propulsion efficiency and is expressed in seconds. NASA describes it as a measure of rocket performance related to thrust produced per unit mass of propellant.
Astrobase was selected under IN-SPACe’s Technology Adoption Fund in June 2026 for development of its indigenous 800-kN LOX-methane FFSC rocket engine.
Astrobase reports that a sub-scale hot-fire test was successfully conducted in September 2025, while its full-scale FFSC engine programme continues toward further testing.
Astrobase was founded in 2024 by Devakumar Thammisetty and Neeraj Khandelwal. An IN-SPACe profile identifies Thammisetty as an ex-ISRO propulsion engineer and Khandelwal as a technology entrepreneur.
The company is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and is developing reusable launch systems using LOX-methane FFSC propulsion technology.
IN-SPACe selected Astrobase among the first beneficiaries of its Technology Adoption Fund, supporting development of advanced space technologies by Indian non-governmental entities.
