Ashmita Chaliha becomes First Indian to win Korea Masters Title - Expected Current Affairs 2026

Indian badminton player Ashmita Chaliha created history by winning the women’s singles title at the Korea Masters 2026 in Asan, South Korea. 


She became the first Indian badminton player to win the Korea Masters and secured her maiden BWF World Tour Super 300 title.


In the final, Chaliha defeated China’s fourth-seeded Han Qian Xi at the Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium. After losing the opening game 14–21, she made a strong comeback to win the next two games 21–14, 21–14, completing the 53-minute match in three games.


Chaliha had earlier defeated fellow Indian Rakshitha Ramraj 21–13, 16–21, 21–13 in the semi-final on 8 August.


The Korea Masters is part of the BWF World Tour, with the Super 300 category forming one of the tournament levels in the BWF event structure.
