LIST OF MAJOR SEA PORTS IN INDIA

A port is a maritime commercial facility which may comprise one or more wharves where ships may dock to load and discharge passengers and cargo.

  1. Kandla Port : Also known as Deendayal Port, it is located in Kutch District, Gujarat. This busiest Major port in India mainly handles crude oil imports.

  1. Paradip Port : Paradip port is a deep-water and natural port located in Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha.

  1. Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) : Located in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, this is country’s largest container port.

  1. Port of Kolkata : Established in 1870, this port is the oldest in India. British East India Company constructed it to have it as a premier port in British India.

  1. New Mangalore Port : This port is an all-weather, deep-water port located in Mangalore, Karnataka. Opened in 1974, this one is operated by New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT).

  1. Tuticorin Port Trust : This weather port is also known as V.O.Chidambaranar Port. It is located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

  1. Ennore Port : Also known as Kamarajar Port, this is located on the Coromandel Coast, Chennai. Opened in 2001, it is the first Indian port which comes under the public sector.

  1. Mormugao Port Trust : This port is located in Goa.

  1. Port of Tianjin : China. Formerly known as the “Port of Tanggu”, is the main maritime gateway to Beijing.

  1. Port of Long Beach : United States. Also known as the “Harbor Department of the City of Long Beach”, is the second-busiest container port in the US, after the Port of Los Angeles.

  1. Port of Guangzhou : China. This port also called the “Silk Road on the Sea.”

  1. Port of Duluth : USA. It is the largest, farthest-inland freshwater port.

  1. Jebel Ali : United Arab Emirates. This deep port is the world's ninth busiest port, the largest man-made harbour, and the biggest and by far the busiest port in the Middle-East.

  1. Port of Busan : South Korea. Largest port of South Korea, located in the city of Busan.
