Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is on an official visit to Nepal. During his visit, he will receive the honorary rank of "General of the Nepal Army," a tradition that began in 1950, symbolizing the strong bond between the two armies.
Gen Dwivedi met with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal to discuss ties between the two countries.
He will also hold talks with Nepal Army Chief Gen Sigdel and meet President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, and Defence Minister Manbir Rai.
On Thursday, President Paudel will award Gen Dwivedi the honorary title at a special ceremony at Rastrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas.
This exchange of honorary titles between the army chiefs of Nepal and India has been a long-standing tradition.
Gen Dwivedi is accompanied by his wife, Sunita Dwivedi, who leads the Army Wives Welfare Association.
Nepal shares a border of over 1,850 km with five Indian states, including Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, West Bengal, and Bihar.
