The government has signed a ₹1,801.34 crore contract with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited to procure the Nag Missile System (NAMIS), a tracked anti-tank weapon developed by DRDO. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here
This follows the successful field evaluation trials of the Nag Mark 2, an indigenously developed third-generation anti-tank guided missile, conducted in Rajasthan’s Pokhran.
Additionally, a deal has been finalized with private companies Force Motors Limited and Mahindra & Mahindra Limited to supply around 5,000 light vehicles for the armed forces.
The total cost of both contracts amounts to ₹2,500 crore.
