Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Agni-V is an indigenously built intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range of 5,000km.
It is a three-stage, solid-fuel-powered missile, capable of delivering a 1.5-tonne nuclear warhead. Classified as a fire-and-forget system, it can only be intercepted by specialized anti-missile defense systems.
The Agni missile program began with Agni-I in 1999, which had its maiden successful test in 2003.
Agni-V was first tested in April 2012 from Wheeler Island (now Dr. Abdul Kalam Island), Odisha.
