7th India-Japan Exercise Dharma Guardian Held in Uttarakhand - Latest Defence Current Affairs 2026

The 7th edition of the India-Japan joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ is being conducted at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubattia, Uttarakhand, from February 24 to March 9. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here


The exercise is organised annually and takes place alternately in India and Japan.


This edition brings together 120 personnel from the Indian Army and 120 personnel from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF).


The Indian contingent is represented by the Ladakh Scouts, while the Japanese side is participating with troops from the 32nd Infantry Regiment.


Exercise Dharma Guardian was first conducted in 2018 in Misawa, Japan. Since then, it has continued as a bilateral military engagement between the two nations.


During the ongoing drill, troops are carrying out a range of tactical activities.


These include the establishment of a Temporary Operating Base, development of an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) grid, installation of mobile vehicle check posts, and execution of cordon and search operations in a hostile environment.
