Sheshnaag-150: India’s Long-Range Swarm Attack Drone - Expected Defence Current Affairs 2026

Watch | Sheshnaag-150 is a long-range swarm attack drone system designed for modern warfare and deep-strike missions.

It has been developed by NewSpace Research & Technologies, a Bengaluru-based defence startup working on autonomous military systems.

Purpose of the System

The drone is designed for coordinated swarm attacks where multiple drones operate together to overwhelm enemy air-defence systems.

Such systems can execute precision strikes, surveillance and electronic warfare tasks simultaneously during combat operations.

Key Technical Features

The Sheshnaag-150 has several advanced operational capabilities:

Range: more than 1,000 km

Endurance: around 5 hours

Warhead/Payload: 25–40 kg

Weight class: about 150 kg UAV

These specifications allow the drone to conduct long-distance precision attacks and remain airborne over target areas before striking.

AI-Powered Swarm Operations

The system uses AI-enabled coordination to allow multiple drones to communicate and execute attacks collaboratively.

Some drones may:

  • gather surveillance data

  • act as decoys to trigger enemy radar

  • jam communications

Strike drones then attack identified targets after defences are exposed.

Type of Weapon System

Sheshnaag-150 belongs to the category of loitering munitions, often called kamikaze or suicide drones.

These drones loiter over an area, identify targets, and destroy them by crashing into the objective with an onboard warhead.

Strategic Importance for India

The system reflects India’s push toward indigenous unmanned combat technology and swarm warfare capability.

Such drones offer a cost-effective alternative to cruise missiles for precision strikes against enemy infrastructure or defence systems.
