India-Cambodia Joint Exercise CINBAX-II Begins in Cambodia - Expected Defence Current Affairs 2026

Watch | The second edition of the India-Cambodia Bilateral Military Exercise CINBAX-II 2026 commenced on 4 May 2026 in Cambodia. The exercise will continue until 17 May 2026.

The joint military exercise is being conducted at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Provincial Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre (Camp Basil) in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia.

The exercise involves the Indian Army and the Royal Cambodian Army. India has deployed 120 personnel, mainly from a battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. Cambodia has deployed 160 military personnel.

The bilateral exercise is being conducted under the framework of Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. The training focuses on operations in a sub-conventional environment and counter-terrorism scenarios linked to UN peacekeeping missions.

The primary objective of CINBAX-II 2026 is to improve interoperability, operational coordination and military synergy between the armed forces of both countries. The exercise also promotes the exchange of operational experiences and tactical best practices.

Verified defence reports confirm that the exercise includes company-level tactical drills, field training activities and specialised modules such as drone operations, mortar handling and sniper tactics.

The first edition of the CINBAX exercise was held in Pune, India, in December 2024. The inaugural exercise focused on joint planning for counter-terrorism operations under UN peacekeeping mandates.

The exercise assumes strategic importance amid India’s expanding defence engagement with ASEAN countries under the Act East Policy. Military cooperation with Cambodia also supports India’s broader Indo-Pacific security outreach.
