The commissioning ceremony was held at Chennai Port and was presided over by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, in the presence of senior naval and government officials.

INS Anjadip is the third vessel among eight being constructed under the Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft project.

Referred to as a “Dolphin Hunter,” the ship is specifically configured to detect, track, and neutralise hostile submarines operating in coastal waters.

The vessel has been constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. It is powered by a high-speed water-jet propulsion system that enables it to achieve speeds of up to 25 knots.

Equipped with an indigenous ASW weapons and sensor suite, the ship carries a hull-mounted Abhay sonar, lightweight torpedoes, and ASW rockets.

In addition to submarine-hunting roles, it can undertake coastal surveillance, low-intensity maritime tasks, and search-and-rescue operations.

The warship derives its name from Anjadip island off the coast of Karnataka, a location associated with naval action during Operation Chutney, which contributed to the liberation of Goa.
