India Successfully Tests Indigenous VSHORADS Missile System - Latest Defence Current Affairs 2026

India has carried out three consecutive flight trials of the indigenous VSHORADS (Very Short Range Air Defence System) missile system off the coast of Odisha. The tests were conducted from Chandipur on February 27, 2026. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here


Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the missile system is now ready for induction into the Indian armed forces following the successful trials.


VSHORADS is a man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) designed to provide short-range air defence capability.


The project has been led by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in coordination with other DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners.


The system is designed to neutralise low-flying aircraft, helicopters, drones, and high-speed aerial threats.
