MoD Signs ₹5,083 Crore Deal for ALH Mk-III, Shtil Missiles - Latest Defence Current Affairs 2026

India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed contracts worth ₹5,083 crore to procure six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III (Maritime Role) and Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch Shtil missiles. Read: The Latest Defence Current Affairs Notes here


The contracts were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi.

ALH Mk-III Helicopters for Indian Coast Guard


The contract for ALH Mk-III (MR) helicopters was signed with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and is valued at ₹2,901 crore.


The deal includes operational role equipment, an engineering support package, and performance-based logistics support for the Indian Coast Guard.


The ALH Mk-III is a twin-engine helicopter with improved capabilities compared to currently operated airborne platforms.


These helicopters can perform a wide spectrum of maritime security missions from shore-based airfields and ships at sea.

Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch Shtil Missiles


The contract for Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch – Shtil missiles and missile holding frames is valued at ₹2,182 crore.


The agreement has been signed with JSC Rosoboronexport, Russian Federation.


The Shtil missile system will strengthen the layered air defence architecture onboard Indian Navy platforms.


It offers rapid-reaction capability, all-weather engagement, and improved survivability in contested maritime environments.
