Respected GTO Sir and my dear friends,
I have chosen to speak on NSG i.e. Nuclear Suppliers Group from India's point of view. As this is a very important subject for all of us Indians.
I plan to cover this topic in four parts, namely- Introduction, Why Is India Seeking To Become Nsg Member and What Are Its Benefits For India, then I will give you the l List Of All 48 Nation who are already NSG members and finally Conclusion by explaining Why China Is Opposing our ( India's ) inclusion in NSG.
INTRODUCTION
On May 12, 2016 India formally applied for membership of NSG. NSG ( Nuclear Suppliers Group ) is a group of 48 nuclear supplier countries that seek to contribute to the non proliferation of nuclear weapons.
The transfer of nuclear technology will be authorised only if such deal does not lead to the proliferation of nuclear weapon. And, that is why all the member states of NSG are signatories to Non Proliferation Treaty while India is not. Which is why India is being opposed by China for acquiring NSG membership.
WHY IS INDIA SEEKING TO BECOME A NSG MEMBER
- Access to global nuclear market - If India becomes NSG member, it would get access to nuclear technology from NSG member for constructing muckers power plant. It would also get better access to the global nuclear market and would be less depended on its own limited resource.
- Foreign technology - Currently, all nuclear based programmes of India are being run on Indian technology. If India becomes a NSG member, it will get access to foreign technology and will be able produce more efficient outcome from nuclear reactors.
- Sell Indian technology - By becoming a NSG member, India can demonstrate and offer to sell its nuclear technology to the 48 NSG members.
