GSAT-30, ISRO’s first satellite to launch in 2020, will enhance the capacity to provide communication links to state-run and private service providers.
GSAT-30 is the 41st communication satellite that was designed and based around the enhanced I-3K platform by ISRO. It is also the 24th ISRO satellite orbited by Ariane-series launchers.
With a design life of 15 years, the satellite is meant to replace the INSAT-4A. The satellite will provide communication services to Indian mainland and islands through Ku-band and wide coverage covering Gulf countries, a large number of Asian countries and Australia through C-band.
GSAT-30 will provide DTH [direct-to-home] television Services, connectivity to VSATs [Very Small Aperture Terminals] for ATM, stock exchange, television uplinking and teleport services, Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) and e-governance applications.
Arianespace had launched ISRO’s GSAT-31 last year. GSAT-31 has a 1-2K bus structure to provide communication services from a geostationary orbit in Ku-band for 15 years.
Arianespace is the world's first commercial launch service provider. Indian First Communication Satellite – Ariane Passenger PayLoad Experiment (APPLE) was successfully launched by Ariane-1, from Kourou, French Guiana on June 19, 1981.
